As an example of the above, here at Distribusha we work with a major flower importer who sources roses from Columbia and Venezuela (and you thought all flowers came from Holland!). Now these roses are picked, stored in a refrigerated warehouse and the next day they are on a flight to London. Once the plane has landed at Heathrow we are notified as we know how long it will take the roses to clear through customs prior to being held in another air-conditioned warehouse ready for collection. The plane does not usually land until late in the afternoon, around 5 p.m. and we have to deliver the flower to the client’s warehouse 150 miles away prior to 6 a.m. the next morning. The speed of delivery is essential as roses have a very short shelf life when not in water. However, there is another reason why their immediate collection from Heathrow is required. The roses come in boxes and the cost for storage of those boxes is approximately £300.00 per day if not collected on time, which our client has never had to pay!

It can be a little daunting if you want to import goods from abroad for onward shipping, especially when it comes to obtaining clearance through customs and collection of the goods. Here at Distribusha we are conveniently located so we are frequently needed at Heathrow to collect imported goods. There are two services that we offer which are the most popular. One is a form of ‘drop shipping’ where our client sells aesthetic lasers for laser lipolysis which are manufactured in South Korea. Because these have proven so popular, we will collect the lasers at Heathrow and deliver them direct to those customers who have already bought one, while we will then deliver the remainder of the consignment to our clients showroom and storage facilities. Our courier services at Heathrow are very flexible because we have long-standing relationships with customs agents and warehouse operators where imported goods first go prior to obtaining customs clearance. Once the goods have been checked and cleared we are then notified and we will collect them as soon as possible to save our clients having to pay and costly storage fees.
