delivery courier service

There is certainly no question that here at Distribusha we don’t treat all consignments with the utmost respect, care and professionalism.  However, there are times when even that is not enough, and an extra-special level of courier service is required. This is often the case for extremely fragile and or highly valuable items, such as paintings, ceramic artworks, glassware and artifacts such as a chandelier.

What Does a White Glove Delivery Service Include?

In many respects, the nature of the service is little different to our normal operating procedures. Where it does differ is in the packaging and transportation of the item(s). It is normal for the consignee (that would be you!), to ensure the item is correctly packaged to minimise risk of damage in transport. We will inspect the item in question, if practical, prior to transportation to ensure that the packaging is appropriate for safe transportation. For large items, such as pieces of furniture, we can supply appropriate protective coverings to ensure no damage can occur during transportation.

Unlike our standard courier delivery service, we also include the technical and practical skills of our couriers. This is particularly important where items may need to be disassembled and reassembled after transportation. This also applies to technical equipment.

Who Uses a White Glove Delivery Service?

Now this is an interesting question as some of the answers may surprise you. You see our white glove delivery service extends beyond what would be anticipated. This is because the service ‘overlaps’ with two of our other services, as we also provide an established and respected technical courier service and a medical courier service. For each of these two services, there are times when we are asked to transport extremely valuable items of equipment that also require precision installation on delivery.

As you can perhaps imagine, there is no need for a white glove delivery service in the UK for hospital beds or standard breathing aids to home-based patients, but there is a need for extremely careful transportation for imaging machinery and highly sensitive laboratory equipment. And as we have alluded to, there is more to our service than simply collecting and delivering items.

courier service to your door

White glove courier services include delivery, room placement and installation

Once we arrive at the destination, our first task will be to establish how to carefully complete the final stage of the delivery – from our vehicle to the room where the item is required. The item in question would usually be carefully attached to a wooden pallet or similar in order for it to be securely moved using a pallet truck. We are keen to use such trucks wherever possible, as the less we have to personally lift any items, the less chance there is of them being dropped!

Unpacking and assembly as part of a white glove courier service

Once the item has been carefully unpacked, if it has come in parts, then these will need to be assembled, after which it will be carefully moved into position. If it is an item of technical equipment, then our staff are trained to check the equipment has been correctly installed and is fully operational before leaving. In the even there are any problems, they will have access to technicians who will be able to ‘troubleshoot’ on their behalf and rectify the situation.

Final inspection and removal of all packaging and where appropriate, old equipment

If our white glove service involves the delivery of replacement technical equipment, for example, once it has been successfully installed, we will collect up all the original packaging, which will be recycled where possible. In addition, we offer a certificated recycling service for technical equipment, so not only will we take any old, redundant equipment away, but we will deliver it to an authorised recycling depot and we will obtain certification to show it has been recycled, which will be passed on to the client. This is especially useful for companies who promote sustainability and eco-friendliness as part of their operating ethos.

Then, prior to leaving, we will give the equipment a final check over just to make 100% sure that it is operating as it should be.

So, Who Needs a White Glove Delivery Service?

It may surprise you to discover that anyone can use white glove delivery companies, it is not service that is offered exclusively for businesses. From a wholly commercial aspect, the types of company we deal with for a white glove delivery service in the UK include suppliers of medical equipment, medical equipment manufacturers, suppliers of technical equipment and manufacturers of technical equipment, as well as art galleries, antiques shops, auction houses and multiple other businesses involved in the selling or supplying of valuable and fragile items.

We also enjoy providing a UK white glove delivery service for private individuals. This can involve the relocation of pianos and large items of furniture, for example, as well as previously mentioned chandeliers, and other household furnishings that are too large and too valuable to just put in the boot of a car or van. As we touched on above, we can also collect items bought from an antiques shop or at auction that are, once again too bulky or valuable to simply put in the boot of a car!
